Minnesota has two painting seasons
Exterior season runs roughly May to mid-October. Interior work runs all year.
Exterior paint wants the wall and the air above 50°F for a couple of days. Around here that is roughly May through mid-October, and low-temperature products stretch the shoulders. The other months are interior season: walls, trim, cabinets and built-ins.

Our shop sits in Independence on the Hwy 12 corridor between Maple Plain and Delano. Independence never went through a subdivision wave: it is farmland, woods and lakes with houses built one at a time along the county roads, from 1970s cedar and hardboard to 2000s LP and vinyl to fiber cement on the newer custom builds. Inside, acreage homes mean big open rooms, vaulted ceilings, a lot of wood trim and a lot of original kitchens, which is most of what we paint here from November through April.
Lake Independence sits on the city's eastern edge and Lake Sarah on the northwest side, with Baker Park Reserve wrapping the southeast shore. Lake homes get lake weather: the water side takes sun and wind, the tree side stays damp, and the north wall is where paint fails first. We scope those walls separately and price the extra prep honestly. Being local also means we can stop by to check a sample in the actual light, or look at a peeling wall, without planning a day around it.

Do you paint lake homes on Lake Independence and Lake Sarah?
Yes. Lake homes are a big part of our exterior work here. The water side and the tree side get scoped and prepped differently, and we do lake-home interiors in winter when the house is quiet.
Is Brushtek actually in Independence?
Our shop is on the Hwy 12 corridor between Maple Plain and Delano. It is a working shop, not a mailbox, which is why a quick look at a sample or a cabinet door is a short trip.
Our acreage house has a lot of stained trim. Will you paint it?
We will, and we will tell you if it is worth keeping stained. Painting stained trim takes a scuff sand, a bonding primer and two coats of enamel, and on many 1980s and 1990s acreage homes it is the biggest single change you can make inside.

How long does it take to paint the inside of a house?
A single room is usually a day, two if there is a lot of trim or repair. A whole-house interior repaint on an average west-metro home runs about a week, working room by room so you are never out of the whole house at once. We give you the schedule in the written estimate.
Can you paint the outside of my house in October?
Often, yes. The rule is that the surface and the air stay above 50°F for a couple of days, and some exterior products go lower. Early October usually works. By late October we are watching the forecast day by day and will tell you honestly if it should wait for spring.
Should I paint my oak cabinets or replace them?
If the boxes are solid and you like the layout, painting is the better answer and a fraction of the cost. We degrease, sand, fill the grain if you want a smooth look, prime with a bonding primer and spray the doors off-site. If the boxes are particleboard and swelling, we will tell you to replace.
Do painters need a license in Minnesota?
No. Minnesota has no state license for painters, so a license claim on a painter's website means nothing. What to check instead: a written estimate that says what gets prepped and how many coats, references you can call, and a crew that shows up when it said it would.
Do you work with builders on new construction?
Yes. We do finish painting for several custom builders in the west metro: primed walls, trim and doors, built-ins and cabinetry, on the builder's schedule. That is why so many of our photos are of brand-new rooms.
